About Dumarao

During the American colonial period, Dumarao saw significant developments in education. In 1903, schools were established with John Langhran as Principal Supervisor. Notable early students included Ludovico Hidrosollo, who later became a senator and the first Dumaraonon governor of Capiz.
The early 20th century also marked the introduction of the Panay Railway in 1907, enhancing connectivity between Dumarao and neighboring regions. The railway facilitated transportation and trade until passenger operations ceased in 1985 and freight services ended in 1989.
Today, Dumarao is a second-class municipality comprising 33 barangays. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 49,506 people. The town celebrates the annual Padagyaw Festival from August 1st to 5th, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and fostering community spirit.
