Barangay Malonoy

Sang una nga tiempo, sang nag-umpisa ang WWII, isa ka adlaw, ang mga Hapones nagsururunod lakat sa dalanon kag nakalab-ot sila sa Barangay Malonoy, dala pamatay sang mga Pilipino nga ila masumalang.

Sa sadto nga ti-on, ang Barangay Malonoy matawhay kag mamingaw nga lugar, laban katalunan kag malaka ang mga pamalay.

May isa ka tawo nga nagapananggot sang lubi. Samtang nagalakat ang mga Hapon sa dalanon, ini siya nakita sa ibabaw sang lubi nga nagakuha sang tuba. Ila ini ginpapanaog kag ginkuha ang tuba kag gin-ubos inom. Pagkatapos ila ginpamangkot ang ini nga tawo nga nagahingalanan nga Atanacio Moron, kon ano ang ngalan sang lugar. Sanglit ini nga tawo maluya kag nagapalanglapsi sa kahadlok nga ini siya pagapatyon. Nagsabat siya nga Marungoy, buot hambalon sang tawo, ini nga lugar “maluya” kag “malinong”.

Malonoy is a rural barangay, and one of the lowland barangays in the municipality of Dumarao, province of Capiz. It has a total land area of 4.9765 square kilometers. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 1,048. This represented 2.12% of the total population of Dumarao.

The barangay has an agricultural area of 284.83 hectares, 57.24% of its total land area. Agricultural produce are palay, corn, banana, and coconut. Part of their agricultural diversification activities are livestock and backyard native chicken farming.

Geo- physical Hazards

Malonoy is exposed to 3 types of hazards: rain-induced flooding with low susceptibility level, rain-induced landslides with 2 susceptibility levels: moderate and low, and KARST Subsidence.

Susceptible to low-level flooding is 128.36 hectares or 25.79% of the total barangay land area.

An area of 59.38 hectares or 11.93% of the total land area has a moderate susceptibility level for rain-induced landslides. Low susceptible have an area of 438.27 hectares or 88.07%.

A portion of the barangay is susceptible to high subsidence having an area of 379.64 hectares or 76.29% of the total barangay land area.

Household

The household population of Malonoy in the 2020 Census was 1,048 broken down into 299 households or an average of 3.51 members per household.

Population by age group

According to the 2020 Census, the age group with the highest population in Malonoy is 10 to 14, with 114 individuals. On the other hand, the age group with the lowest population is 75 to 79, with 11 individuals.

Combining age groups, those aged 14 and below, consisting of the young dependent population which includes infants/babies, children, and young adolescents/teenagers, make up an aggregate of 28.91% (303). Those aged 15 up to 64, roughly, the economically active population and actual or potential members of the workforce, constitute a total of 63.17% (662). Finally, the old dependent population consisting of the senior citizens, those aged 65 and over, total 7.92% (83) in all.

Historical population

The population of Malonoy grew from 604 in 1990 to 1,048 in 2020, an increase of 444 people over the course of 30 years. The latest census figures in 2020 denote a positive growth rate of 2.85%, or an increase of 131 people, from the previous population of 917 in 2015.
