Barangay Tinaytayan
The Barangay got its name during the Spanish Era, based on a story that has been passed down through generations. When the Spaniards occupied the Philippines, a group of Guardia Civil was patrolling a certain area. They encountered a group of natives who were constructing a bamboo bridge to help them cross the river, now known as the Badbaran River. The Guardia Civil inquired among the natives about the name of the place. The natives, not understanding the question, thought the guards were asking what they were doing. In response, they replied, “Taytayan, para makatabok,” which means “A bridge, to cross.” The Spaniards misunderstood and thought that “Taytayan” was the name of the place. From then on, the area was known as Taytayan, which was later changed to Tinaytayan.
