Barangay Guinotos

Long ago, before the Spanish occupation in the late 1800s, there was a village called GIN-GUTOS located in the Northeastern portion of the municipality. Old folks claimed that the village once rested not too near the river as it is today and that the name Gin-gutos was derived from the downstream of the river.

It was said that during the rainy season, the river swells and inundates giving rise to new river paths. It was the flow of the river in its new path towards the village that made the villagers come to call their place Gin-gutos. “Gutos” is a local dialect which means to walk the path or to pass through it, Gin-gutos locally means walking or flowing, in the case of the river, towards the place.

Upon the arrival of the Spaniards, the place Gin-gutos came to be known as GUINOTOS, or “the place where the river came flowing towards it.”
