Barangay Jambad

Before the Spanish era, the natives in the barangay were the aetas and some rich Chinese people who occupied mostly the hilly part of the barangay. When the Spaniards came, the barangay was named “JAMBARAN” which means – “a place where so many rich families and big houses” can be found.

During the American Era, the name “Jambaran” was changed to “JAMBAD”.
Jambad is a rural barangay, and one of the lowland barangays in the municipality of Dumarao, province of Capiz. It has a total land area of 2.1893 square kilometers. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 783. This represented 1.58% of the total population of Dumarao.

The barangay has an agricultural area of 212.86 hectares, 97.23% of its total land area. Agricultural produce are palay, cassava, and coconut. Part of their agricultural diversification activities are livestock and backyard native chicken farming.

Geo- physical Hazards

Jambad is exposed to 3 types of hazards: rain-induced flooding with low susceptibility level, rain-induced landslides with low susceptibility level, and KARST Subsidence.

Susceptible to low-level flooding is 94.87 hectares or 43.33% of the total barangay land area.

The entire barangay area has a low susceptibility level for rain-induced landslides.

Similar to landslides, the entire barangay area is susceptible to high subsidence.

Demographics

Household

The household population of Jambad in the 2020 Census was 783 broken down into 218 households or an average of 3.59 members per household.

Population by age group

According to the 2020 Census, the age group with the highest population in Jambad is 25 to 29, with 86 individuals. On the other hand, the age group with the lowest population is 75 to 79, with 8 individuals.

Combining age groups, those aged 14 and below, consisting of the young dependent population which includes infants/babies, children, and young adolescents/teenagers, make up an aggregate of 27.20% (213). Those aged 15 up to 64, roughly, the economically active population and actual or potential members of the workforce, constitute a total of 65.52% (513). Finally, the old dependent population consisting of the senior citizens, those aged 65 and over, total 7.28% (57) in all.

Historical population

The population of Jambad grew from 510 in 1990 to 783 in 2020, an increase of 273 people over the course of 30 years. The latest census figures in 2020 denote a positive growth rate of 4.72%, or an increase of 154 people, from the previous population of 629 in 2015.
