Barangay Ongol Ilaya

When Spaniards came in the Philippines on the 16th century, one of them walked in our area and he met a man asking what the name of the place is. Then, the man was a deaf and he did not answer. Another man came and said that “that man was “bungol” which means “deaf”. As he came back from his group, they were asking if where he had been. He answered that he came from “UNGGOL” that sounds from the word “BUNGOL” as he forgot the right word he heard that he interpreted that it was the name of the place. Then the previous Mayor corrected the word “UNGGOL” to “ONGOL”, and he decided together with teniente de barrio to divide into two, since the area of Ongol is too big and the teniente del barrio could hardly facilitate the constituents due to lack of transportation and roads before, from now on they called Ongol Ilaya and Ongol Ilawod.
