Barangay Tina

One day, while the Japanese men passed by an old woman taking a bath at the creek called Ambulong Creek. A Japanese soldier asked the old women about the name of the place. The woman was thinking that the soldier was asking for a drink from the water, replied no, “may tina”. Since then, the place was called Brgy. Tina.

Barangay Tina is a barangay in the municipality of Dumarao, in the province of Capiz. It has a total land area of 14,538.5 square kilometers.

The barangay has an agricultural area of 747.39 hectares, 51.40% of its total land area. The agricultural produce are palay, sugarcane, corn, coconut and calamansi plantation. Part of their agricultural diversification activities are livestock and backyard native chicken farming.

Geo- physical Hazards

Tina is exposed to 2 types of hazards: rain-induced flooding with 3 susceptibility levels: high, moderate, and low, rain-induced landslides with 3 susceptibility levels: high, moderate, and low.

Susceptible to low-level flooding is 470.9 hectares or 32.39% of the total barangay land area. Moderately susceptible have an area of 73.26 hectares or 5.04%, while 7.84 hectares of 0.54% have a high level susceptibility.

An area of 767.78 hectares or 52.81% of the total land area has a high susceptibility level for rain-induced landslide. Moderately susceptible have an area of 518.82 hectares or 35.76%, while 166.23 hectares or 11.43% have low-level susceptibility.

The entire barangay area is susceptible to high subsidence.

A portion of the barangay is susceptible to high subsidence having an area of 993.84 hectares or 64.14% of the total barangay land area.

Demographics

Household

The household population of Tina in the 2020 Census was 1,409 broken down into 392 households or an average of 4.17 members per household.

Population by age group

According to the 2020 Census, the age group with the highest population in Tina is 0-4, with 11.85% or 167 individuals. On the other hand, the age group with the lowest population is 80 and over, with 0.78% or a total of 11 individuals.

Combining age groups, those aged 14 and below, consisting of the young dependent population which includes infants/babies, children, and young adolescents/teenagers, make up an aggregate of 33.71% (475). Those aged 15 up to 64, roughly, the economically active population and actual or potential members of the workforce, constitute a total of 58.98% (831). Finally, the old dependent population consisting of the senior citizens, those aged 65 and over, total 7.31% (103) in all.

Historical population

The population of Tina grew from 1,109 in 1990 to 1,409 in 2020, an increase of 300 people over the course of 30 years. The latest census figures in 2020 denote a positive growth rate of 3.73%, or an increase of 225 people, from the previous population of 1,184 in 2015.
